Cotton is the most used and most requested textile fiber by the textile industry and by users. In recent years, a multitude of labels and certifications have emerged to try to distinguish them. But what do these labels mean and are they comparable? Hence the two questions we are often asked:
What is the difference between Organic Yarn cotton and other cotton?
And are they all equal?
The answer is obviously no, and we explain all this here!
Cotton Yarn is the favorite textile fiber of the human being, for its qualities of softness, breathing and comfort. The downside, it is also one of the most polluting fibers in the world and certainly the one consuming the most freshwater. The pollution comes from the huge amount of water needed to grow it, the pesticides and other chemicals used to grow it and transform it. But also everything about his transport. Indeed, cotton grows only in certain parts of the world and therefore requires means of transport to go from one region of the world to another.
Today organic cotton represents less than 1% of the world's organic cotton crop, but even if all the brands of the world decided to produce all organic cotton, it would not be possible. Statistics and studies show that the Earth could not produce much more than 12% of global cotton in organic farming.
Why ? Because to meet the current global demand, deserts have been converted back into conventional cotton fields in which climatic conditions and / or insects require chemical treatments.
